Holiday 2010 – Part 1
Description
2 whole weeks away! we havent been away from home for so long since before we had kids. It was fantastic! We did and saw so much, that Ive decided to post about it in parts.
Lifesaving Nationals were in Bluewater Bay this year, so we had decided a while ago to make a bit of a trip around it. We left on Sunday, 21 March with 2 boards on my car, and 2 ski’s on B’s car (which my mom drove). Initially we had hoped to hit Bluewater the same day, but as the drive went on, we realized that it wouldnt be possible. While stopped at the Riversdale Spur for lunch, we decided that we would spend the night in George. Thank goodness for Blackberry Internet! I searched and called a few places, before coming across the French Lodge International. It looked stunning AND it said that each room had its own jacuzzi! It was pretty reasonably priced, so we asked them to reserve us a room.
While at the Spur, we blew the waiter’s mind! I ordered 3 Grapetizers, 1 for me and 1 each for the kids. My mom and B each ordered a drink as well, so thats 5 people, 5 drinks, sorted. The waiter looked at me and asked if i wanted something for the kids. I told him that the Grapetizers were for the kids… he couldnt believe it! He just stared at us, open-mouthed. hehehehe, we rocked that joint! Granny also climbed into the kids play-area to save jessie. we were c;early “outsiders”
The ratings were good, it was rated as a 4-star, and so we thought we were in for a treat. I guess not all ratings are considered equal
. I think we were all hoping that the room would have 2 separate rooms, or that the room would be really big. The room was a good size, but when youre my mother, it was too close for comfort. Her bed was about 2metres from ours, and it was a little weird to think about sleeping in the same room.
So we switched rooms. She got her own, and we got ours. The lodge itself was nice. (i wouldnt call it 4-star) We had DSTV, a queen size bed, a sleeper couch for jessie, and a spa bath. (think maybe in the french it translates differently? or theyre taking a chance) Our chalet overlooked the pool, and the whole place was very quiet.
We made good use of the pool despite the chillier weather. Jack showed us again that he is fearless, by jumping into the pool. He is going to keep me young! He loved being in the pool and going swimming with B. B put him on his back, Jack held on, and B swam. It took some convincing to get jessie off the step to do same thing. But once she had gotten used to it, she loved it!
We put the kids into the spa bath to warm up. Now in the bathroom there was a notice that said only pool-side chalets may use their jacuzzis after 10pm. After switching on our spa bath, we understood why the notice was there! It was loud!! it reminded of an aeroplane taking off… ok slightly quieter than that, but you get my point. The combo of the big bubbles and noise put jessie off. (she has since decided and told us that she doesnt want to go back to George as thats her association)
We went out for supper, but couldnt stand the thought of another Spur meal. As much as we love Spur, 2 meals in 1 day is pushing it. So we drove around looking for somewhere to eat. We came across the Kingfisher, where B and I had our first dinner after we got engaged. We both loved it and so we settled on eating there. Sadly, things had changed or maybe we were both just so euphoric after getting engaged that the meal tasted better than we thought
The kids had a blast running in and out to look at the fish tank. The sushi wasnt great, and the grilled calamari was just plain gross. B asked for his to be crumbed and fried after tasting it. Here, we also rocked the waitress’s world by ordering sushi for jessie for supper. we definitely rocked the Garden Route!
We all slept pretty well that night, and had a nice breakfast in the morning. We were all ready for the second part of our drive to Bluewater Bay.
