thanks mom
Description
I read an article today on motherhood. It went on about how a mom sometimes has to do the jobs of 23 different people in a day, and about how the average workday is 13 hours long.
13 hours?!? try 24hours a day. motherhood (parenthood to be fair) is a 24 hour job, 365days a year. it doesnt stop just because the kids are asleep. so much can and does happen at night.
Yes, moms AND dads play many different roles during the day, but thats what we are there for. Parenthood is all encompassing. it means being everything from maid to chef to accountant to lawyer to mechanic to vet to engineer and so on and so on.
Our kids look at everything we do and are amazed. they tell how how clever we are and they hug the life out of us when we find their lost caterpillar, make their favourite food, fix their ow’s and mend their favourite books. Imagine if we didnt do all that, the house would be more chaotic, the kids unhappy, the parents unhappy… it would be down-right miserable!
Yes, motherhood is seen as a thankless task.. but whose perception is that? moms get thanked in a myriad of ways each and every day. we get to see our kids happy, we get to make them laugh. we get hugs and kisses, special concoctions, special medicines. we get to experience childhood all over again through their eyes. we are loved and accepted for who we are, unconditionally. I’d say that that is more thanks than anything.
There’s a thanks mom in every smile, every kiss, every hug, every hand held, every meal eaten, every cup of juice drunk, every breath taken.
I think we forget that.
I for one am going to try and hold onto those “thank-you’” ‘s. they brighten my day and make everyday worthwhile!
