Easier…

Description

“Don’t worry, it gets easier!” That’s something you hear all too often as a new parent or a parent with young kids. Everyone feels they have to tell you that its always “gets easier” the older that the kids get. Even as your pregnancy progresses, people tell you that it “gets easier” once the baby is born.

I don’t think it ever gets “easier,” it just gets “different”. :-D Every stage and age of childhood seems to bring its own trials and difficulties. Every age has its own challenges. (And every child is different, reaching those stages at different times.)

Some people find newborns hard. They’re unpredictability and smallness is very tough for some parents. They struggle with the night wakings, the fragility, the dependence.
Others find toddlers hard. The tantrums, the attempts at independence, teething, they don’t seem to eat well, the fearlessness.
And so it goes with each age and stage.

If we focus too much on it “getting easier” ie how hard it is, we will miss out on so much of what makes it awesome. So, gush when its hard. Embrace the different-ness of each age and it will get “easier” :-D
