Homeschool week 2
Description
Another week down already! It seems that our school week has flown by. It was a great week! We had quite a lot of fun, with a few moments of frustration (mostly me).
We learnt about Spring and we constructed our own, very make-shift kite. We learnt about “b” and Jessie kept calling it a “d”. She could write B and b, but kept thinking it was a “d”. I lost my cool once or twice, and regretted it deeply! she did eventually get it right on Day 4.
She was pointing them out in books and on signs, but just seemed to have a mental block against “b”.
I’d done everything I could think of to teach her “b”. We hopped like bunnies saying “b, b, b, b”, we wrote it, identified it, thought of lots of “b” words, cut out pictures of magazines of things start with “b”, thought of all the names we know that start with B, ran around the garden shouting “b,b,b,b,b,b,b” etc. So when she wasn’t getting it, I felt like a failure and took that out on her. Which is not fair at all! By the grace of God, we moved past that and carried on having a blast.
I love how proud she looks when she can repeat her memory verses. She know. Proverbs 4:20 and Hebrews 11:1. She loves being able to share what she’s learning.
I’m loving how Sonlight opens the door to learning a whole host of things outside of the prescribed work. We drew a picture of a rainbow and discussed the colours, we read about flying a kite so we made our own (which wasn’t all that successful…oops). All things that we decided would be fun based on what we had learnt.
Its so funny to watch Jessie identify the stigma, stamen, petals, stem and sepal of a flower! She knows the parts and names. It blows people away! She’s 3 and she’s teaching adults a thing or 2!
Jack learnt the letter “b” with us this week. When jessie is busy with her copywork, I work on colours and counting with Jack. We all read together and do crafts together. Their favourite was making a paper chain snake last week… Who is still hanging in our lounge and goes by the name, Satan!
After just 2 weeks, jessie can write her name and surname, and has copied an entire invitation. I’m amazed what she’s accomplishing! We all are! Jack’s vocab has increased and he is drawing with far more intent/purpose. He is doing so well too!
So thankful to be able to be homeschooling my sprogs with Sonlight!

Glad to hear you’re still loving Sonlight [smile].
My sister struggled with “b” and “d” as well. I think, like so many things, some things just take time to sink in. I saw this memory helper last week. Perhaps it will help reinforce the concept…

Thanks a million Luke!
I really appreciate it. Yet another reason why Sonlight rocks, the blog love, encouragement and tips!
My daughter on weekends asks why we aren’t doing school… Think I’m going to do school on weekends now too.
